Service Authorization

To acquire the proper approval for services to be rendered to a client, you must submit a Request for Service Authorization to NY Medicaid. Any Referring Physician information may be provided, as well as what type of service requires authorization. Due to the nature of the inquiry, an Eligibility Request is automatically submitted for the Client and Service Date to ensure that the client has active coverage at the time. Once an SA Request has been issued, you may Confirm or Cancel that request in addition to reviewing the Responses.

An SA Request may be sent for any one of the following situations:

• health care admission certification

• referrals

• health care services certification

• extended certification

• certification appeals
